Had a great Sunday yesterday.

I wasn’t at Elevation.  Instead, I was invited to speak at one of our partnering churches down in Salt Lake, K2.

What a great church and I love the mission God has called them on.

It was a little strange speaking there…since they have four services, but two of the services always happen at the same time.  So, I was in one warehouse speaking and in the other warehouse Dave Nelson, the lead pastor of k2, was speaking the same thing.

First time I had seen that at a church.

Had a great time with the k2 church family.  Great people.  www.k2thechurch.com

in Michigan

Posted October 21st, 2008 by trinity

This week I’m in the Detroit, Michigan area co-leading the training of 6 new church planting projects at a church planting bootcamp.

I love working with new church planters and helping them to discover what God is leading them to do.  I’m having a great time here.  The bed I’m sleeping on at the conference center is the worst ever, the conference center doesn’t have internet, but other than that…I’m dealing with it.

Ready to be home though…miss my girls as usual.

tcu vs. byu

Posted October 18th, 2008 by trinity

If you missed it Thursday night – my TCU horned frogs put the beating down on the undefeated #8 BYU Cougars.  32-7 was the final score…

Great game by TCU.  They sacked BYU’s qb 6 times, who all other previous games had only been sacked 4 times.  Sorry BYU…remember when you broke TCU’s heart in 2005…paybacks.

I’ll be at the Utah vs. TCU game in November.  Utah better watch out…that is going to be a good game.

off to speak

I’m about to leave to go speak at a conference that is being held right here in our backyard.  The CALLED CONFERENCE.

It is for those that think/feel that God is calling them into a vocational ministry position.  I’m going to be sharing my story, how God has worked in our lives, and how they can take steps to prepare for a vocational ministry position.  I’ve got lots of thoughts on this subject, but I’ll leave them in my head for another day.

been absent

Posted October 18th, 2008 by trinity

I have been absent this week from blogging.  VERY busy week.

I hurt my right knee playing flag football on the airbase with a bunch of twentysomethings.  I’m not as young as I think I am…

So, went to the doctor’s office…long story…I tore my MCL, sprained it really bad as well.  A lot of fluid in my knee right now and I have about another 4 weeks of recovery.

What I didn’t tell anyone about my knee was…that they found a large bone mass on my leg bone.  They were worried that it was a cancerous bone tumor.  So, this week I have had a few doctor’s appointments, MRI, etc.  Great news…the tumor is not cancerous.

On top of the leg/knee issues…my good friends from Phoenix came into town for the week.  They have been hanging with our family and staying at our house.  I have been trying to cram everything into as little time as I can so I can hang with them.

I have written two sermons this week, filmed one sermon for the video we are doing, and have been busy getting ready for our November.  Next week I should have another two sermons written.  I’m trying to get my messages done WAY AHEAD of time.

All that to say…I’m swamped and will be back to regular blogging now that things are slowing.

3 years

Posted October 9th, 2008 by trinity

Three years of the Elevation community here in Layton, Utah has passed.  WOW.  What a ride.  I’m almost stunned to be at this spot already, seems like yesterday we felt God was calling us to do this.

Three years here has not brought with it any of those success stories that books are written about.  No 3,000 member community after three years.  No five million dollar facility after three years.  No five locations cover five cities and two counties after three years.

I’ll tell you what there is though; there exists a community of believers who are asking the right questions, seeking the right answers, and growing closer to Jesus every day.  There exists a community dedicated to Jesus.  Dedicated to glorifying Jesus.  Dedicated to the life that God intends for them to live.

Three years have not produced stat sheets here; three years of community has produced relationships.  These relationships have names; Ty, Melissa, Trace, Andy, Candice, Katie, Jeremy, Logan, Sam & Debbie, Wynne, Pat, Nate & Kristin, Mike, TomCat, Adam, Dave & Kris, and the list goes on…

I’m excited to see what the future holds for our community.  Where will God lead us?  What will be our epic adventure with God as a community?  Who will begin their journey in our community?

I’m honored to have served as one of the planting pastors of Elevation Church.  I’m honored to have served alongside Ryan Lind as co-pastor of this amazing community, and I am honored to call this my home community.

Elevation - never become comfortable with the status qua.  Don’t give up on each other for petty arguments or preferences.  Hold fast to Jesus Christ, who binds us all together in love.  Be honest with one another and forgive each other for all of us sin, and we don’t deserve the forgiveness we have been given.  Don’t look to bigger and better, look to deeper and humble.  The Elevation community is worth sharing with others, because God is changing our lives, God is living in us, and God is to be worshiped.
